Many shifting problems start outside the transmission: fluid, a solenoid, a sensor. Those are ruled out first, so a rebuild is only recommended when it is truly needed.
Ask about the shifting — (720) 230-1727
Revs climb without acceleration.
Fluid, solenoids or software.
Torque converter or fluid condition.
Cooler line or seal leaks.
Overheated fluid.
Transfer case or actuator faults.
Level, condition and the source of any loss.
Solenoid, sensor and pressure readings.
Shift timing and feel under load, cold and warm.
When the fault is internal, you get the cost of repairing the failed section, rebuilding the unit and fitting a replacement, each with its time off the road. Manual gearboxes, clutches and transfer cases are handled the same way.
After the work the fluid is set to specification at operating temperature and the vehicle is driven through every gear, including four-wheel-drive engagement where it is fitted, before you collect it.
Four-wheel-drive problems are checked from the switch to the transfer case, since many engagement faults come from actuators, sensors or wiring rather than the case itself.
Fluid, solenoid and external leak repairs are at the smaller end. Internal repairs and rebuilds depend on how much has failed, and replacement units depend on availability for your transmission. Each option is priced so you can compare them side by side, along with the time each one keeps the vehicle off the road.
Explain when it happens: cold or warm, under load or cruising, and in which gears. Say whether the vehicle tows and whether four-wheel drive is involved. If another shop has quoted a rebuild, mention it.
If you tow, say how much and how often. Towing heats transmission fluid fast and changes both the likely cause and the right fix.
Only if low or degraded fluid was the cause. Worn clutches will not recover. Testing tells you which situation you are in.
As little as possible; slipping creates heat that speeds up the damage and can turn a repair into a replacement.
Yes. Clutches, manual gearboxes and transfer cases are tested and priced the same way.
External fixes such as leaks and solenoids are often quick. Rebuilds and replacement units take longer and depend on parts. The time estimate comes with each option, so you can weigh time off the road as well as cost.
Describe how it shifts, cold and warm, and we will plan the right checks before talking about any rebuild.
